One of the most prestigious art schools in the country, founded in 1903 and located outside Boston. The students here are the elite: the best at whatever they do, be it dance, drama, music, visual art, or fashion. The atmosphere is competitive: students are encouraged to do their best but also to beat others. And everyone is ambitious: they know there are only so many roles in a play, so many musicians in a band or orchestra. And there is only ever one lead. Threatened with the closing of the school, these students will do anything to keep it open. Friendship means nothing when your future is at stake. Weatherfield may be an arts school, but it is still a high school - and this is what high school is about. Competition, drama, gossip, it's all here, but added is that desire to be the best.

erin
Her blue eyes fell with dismay upon the person she least wanted to see - Vince. He had made sure he was recognizable. Not that it would take much effort, for everybody in the school could identify his walk, his casual demeanor. Erin now stood not far from the refreshments table in a crowd of fellow dance students, clutching a bottle of water. She jerked her gaze away from him, studying the students on the dance floor. She saw some people whose identities she could guess - a short girl with a waist-length sheet of dark hair next to a guy who dwarfed her could only be Kiara and Michael. She thought she could figure out some of her fellow dance students as well. Impulsively, Erin chugged the rest of her water and slid into the fray on the dance floor.
For once she regretted her costume. It was cute and she loved it, but the short, tight skirt prevented the freedom of movement that characterized the dancing Erin loved. Nonetheless, she found herself dancing with a group of other students - some of whom she knew, some of whom she wasn't sure she had ever seen before. It didn't really matter - seeing Vince brought back memories she hadn't revisited in a while, for she hadn't encountered him since the beginning of the school year. Dancing was, for Erin, the one thing that could drown out everything else. Physical activity was a drug to move pain, for she could become so absorbed in the grace of her movements that she stopped thinking about all else.
By chance, Erin met the eyes of a masked figure in a long bronze dress. If their gazes had not locked, Erin wouldn't have recognized Lanni, whose face was obscured by a gold mask. She made her way through the crowd to her friend.
"Hey, how are you?" she asked, fairly sure that Lanni had recognized her as well.

Tris raised his eyebrows at the senior. "Oh? Anybody can dance. All you have to do is flail around a little in time to the music. It's not like there's any fancy protocol anymore." He didn't really see dancing as any more than that, at least not party dancing. Artistic dancing, the kind people did at recitals in a coordinated manner, was a bit different. But whatever was going on out there was chaos: his eyes fell upon one knot of students who really were just flailing around and not even in time to the music - so drunk already?
At the senior's question, he just shrugged. "Maybe I'm just lazy. I'll go if you go." Tris regretted the comment about Kiara. He disliked the girl, but he didn't want to make it seem like she was the only thing keeping him from dancing. There was also the whole this-isn't-my-type-of-music issue, but mentioning that usual invited many comments about snobbishness. He supposed he should have just joined his friends on the dance floor, but he had been hoping to leave early and practice, and once they got a hold of him, getting away would be extremely difficult.
Then again, perhaps it was nerdy even for him to want to leave a party and practice. He was serious about his music and prided himself on being a music nerd, but he was really a sociable person and should enjoy parties. He began tapping his foot to the beat of the music, and decided to let Ted interpret it as he liked.

Michael:
He returned a smile to Andy, "Michael. All terrible I'll bet." Glancing to Kiara and sticking his tongue out at her. But turning back to look at Andy, found her attentions to have moved on and so reverted his to their usual occupations.
"It's gotta be improvisation... else they'll see it coming a mile off." he took stock of the situation, wondering exactly what could be done in such an environment - whilst it all should've looked so promising his mind was drawing a blank on any potential havock that there was to be wreaked; distracted by the close proximity of his friend - although he hadn't paid heed to that as a reason.
Kiara was a friend to him, just a friend. They'd known each other so long and grown so close their relationship was maybe more like that you would find in a family, but there was something else. Michael had shrugged it off, telling himself and convincing himself that regardless of if he wanted anything to happen Kiara probably didn't see it that way and that if he acted things might turn sour and he'd lose her entirely. Of course, this was just his reasoning - the real reason somthing else entirely, but he wasn't willing to admit it.
Realising his pause, he added, "Whenever the moment takes us, we'll just go for it yeah?" His eyes bugged momentarily, realising what he'd just said - though relaxing almost immediately (at least outwardly) in realising that his Art student friend had no idea about his internal monologue.
Ted:
Ted cleared his throat, shuffling his feet and looking just as shy and retiring as he always did. "Hmm... well." He threw a 'that'll never happen' look - though it's meaning was open to interpretation - "Uh... I'd need alot of dutch courage to get up there..." Though Ted had no idea if drinking would help in this case.
So maybe getting into bars wasn't the problem, there were plenty of times he'd been down to the city watering holes with Vincent - odd pairing that they made. And yes, when in said company he would drink like a fish. But the problem still existed, that road block in his mind, his need to be incontrol of a situation. Even drunk, Ted found he could only say yes if everyone else was as inebriated as he was.
Then self-pity fell down on him like a tonne of bricks, he realised that Tris was probably here for a good time and didn't want to be stuck by the side of the hall all night; he realised that it shouldn't be Tris's job to get him onto the floor and dancing; and he realised that he would be no fun to be around moping and wallowing in this feeling whilst there was a party going on. He inhaled sharply and deeply, standing straighter than his usual round shouldered, head down stance, and nodded once to himself.
"Right, who should we go join then?" He looked to Tris, not particularly knowing many of the students on the floor (since those in his Drama major seemed to be sticking to the sidelines - just as ill built for dancing as he was apparently).
Vincent:
Okay, costume + hall + lots of people - open windows = bad idea. Vincent thought to himself, once again removing the rabbit's head from his costume and sitting it by his feet.
Instantly the glare of a teacher was thrown his way, guilty until proven innocent seemed to be the modus operandi where he was concerned with the authorities. He responded with a winning smile and a fake, sarcastic wave in her direction - adding in an exaggerated wink for good measure. She threw back a hauty look and bustled of to make her report to one of the other teachers, though exactly what she was reporting would just be another run of the mill complaint between staff about that McCarthy boy.
Resuming his previous transaction as if there had been no pause, "That's $4 for the two... don't say I'm not goo to you Thom..." Holding out the two blue bottles in one hand and accepting payment from the sophomore in the other.
As Thom retreated, Ms Marissa Crane - the head of Vincent's Music faculty - approached with a sceptical look in her eyes, one highly sculpted eyebrow raised in enquiry. "Mr McCarthy, I do hope that you're not doing what I think you're doing...?" Question lingered on her tone, wanting to recieve a negative response from one of her students.
He looked down at her - Ms Crane's diminuitive stature not making her any less of an ominous presence around those pupil's who were on her bad side; Vincent was lucky though, being one of those pupils who could get away with anything with her. "And what would that be Ms? I was just sharing some of my gatherings from the night's exploits with my fellow students..." He smiled his variant on an irresistable smile - although it seemed not to have the absolute effect he was hoping for, she knew fine well what he was up to and was just happy that she had stopped him first.
"On the house?" he questioned, handing her four multi-coloured bottles - one for each of the staff present. She gave him a final 'you're chancing it' look as she accepted the bribe and walked off. Vincent exhaled a subconciously held breath, rolling his eyes to the ceiling before relaxing again, waiting to (more subtely) distribute the rest of his merchandise.

lanae wilkinson x This innocence is brilliant I hope that it will stay This moment is perfect Please don't go away I need you now
When Lanae recognised someone, she almost melted with delight. She wouldn't be all alone in a room full of people, again! She smiled brightly when she saw her friend coming towards her. "Hey!" She said quietly, but loud enough for her to hear. "I'm okay. I guess." She shrugged, looking around the room. Sure, there weren't a lot of people she knew, but she knew who they were... sort of. Her cheeks flushed a bright scarlet red when she saw Vince. She turned away so as she wouldn't really be staring. She knew what he did to Erin, and how she hated him for it.
But he was just soo.. Vince. An explanation wasn't even needed.
Why was she such a bumbling idiot? Why couldn't she just face the facts, that he was.. Vince.. and she was.. a bumbling idiot. Okay, so nothing was going to happen between them. She knew that, right? Right. So there was nothing wrong with a teeny tiny crush on him. Right? Oh, well, she was going to stop thinking right this moment before she confused herself all over again.
She turned back to Erin. "How are you?" She asked, trying to think about anything besides the extremely gorgeous guy over in the front selling things she wouldn't be caught dead with. She fiddled with her purse anxiously, her dark eyes wandering mercilessly to the dancing people.
Her mind told her no, but her heart told her go. How terrifying it would be to dance in front of people in something like this. She'd probably step on the hem, trip, and fall flat on her face. Of course it was different in a preformance, though. There she knew the routine, what she was supposed to do, how she was supposed to do it, and the best part of all was there were absolutely no guys she had to put her arm around. ________________________________

danielle calvin x Tunnel vision had him locked on in my sight On a mission, for position by the end of the night Its like a pray, playin' games with the hunter You better run boy, time to surrender
Dani had picked her costume out months before halloween, and before the dance. The gangster moll costume was just soo her. And, did she mention she looked totally hot in it? She grinned at her reflection, of the tight, low cut dress, with fishnet tights and high heels almost as big as her head. She was already tall, but now she passed the six foot mark. But, she didn't care. So what if she was taller than most of the guys? It wasn't impossible to take off heels. She put double-sided tape on her mask to keep it on, and made sure her blond curls were perfectly in tact, then slid on her hat. There, perfect.
She grinned, and turned, to saunter out of the dorm room. She reached the party, and her keen blue eyes searched, for anyone she knew. Well, she saw plenty of people she knew, but not really any that she liked. She put her hands on her hips. Mm. I'll just have to make some new friends, then.. She pondered, looking around for anyone that she could possibly talk to. Maybe, she thought, she could go give dear Kiki a visit. But, it looked like someone had already done that. It was easier to determine who was under the masks than she had thought it would be.
She could already see that shy kid, Lanae, hiding from everyone, and she wasn't surprised. Then there was Kiara, Micheal (who she still said they should go out, because they were such cute little geeks together) and Andy, or something. And, just about everyone else that she could think of at the top of her head. She sighed. Oh well, at least she looked good, right? Of course, right. She fingered her clutch purse thoughtfully.
How boring. She'd been there not even a few minutes and there wasn't hardly anything to do. ________________________________

kiara
Kiara's eyes scanned the crowd. Yes, people would see plans coming, but given the general emptiness of Davidson's upper gallery, there wasn't much to work with on the spot. She could imagine some things destructive to the room, but there were too many witnesses and such things weren't so entertaining. And of course, there was that distracting desire in the back of her mind to dance. For once, Kiara wanted to be part of the party instead of, well, ruining it. But of course, she always ruined parties in a fun way...
Whenever the moment takes us, we'll just go for it yeah?
Oh, she loved Michael's way of thinking. Just by speaking his own thoughts, he always seemed to read her mind. Not that any opportunity had presented itself thus far, she noted. Maybe they could ruin some happy couple's romantic moment - Kiara always found some sort of sadistic pleasure in that, not being much of a romantic herself. She was far too hyper for such deep emotions, but that wasn't to say she didn't understand love.
Kiara almost spun with excitement when the DJ switched on a slow song. It was a cue for many couples to begin dancing intimately. It didn't take her much deliberation - whenever the moment takes us... - she spun toward Michael. "Wanna dance?"
Of course, part of her just wanted to see him look flustered. But that was a minor part of her. Most of her genuinely did want to dance with him.
I think I have problems with finishing things. Will post the rest of the crew later, I guess...

OOC: I should have made at least one character that wasn't quite so ... standoffish. Very hard to get standoffish people into RP for me.
**Alexia** Dancing wasn't, by any stretch of the imagination, Alexia's thing. She was the kind of nerd who would rather do a research project than attend a party like this one. The music was giving her a headache that pounded in her temples, and the heat in the room had risen and was close to suffocating the fashion student.
But she was making a conscious effort to fit in this time; she knew she sat on the edges of parties much too much, writing in her notebook or reading something she'd written down before, or examining a sketch she'd jotted down. She was all too aware of the fact that she should at least try to be sociable.
So, as the slow song struck up, Alexia sighed, stuck her notebook back in her purse, and headed out onto the dance floor. Briefly, she considered setting the purse down on a chair - but then thought better of it, since there were all too many people about and she wasn't quite that naive.
Alexia knew how to dance, insofar as what everyone was doing at that point was true dancing. But she felt very self-conscious, by herself amidst the various dancing couples.
And there was, so far as she could tell, no one she knew very well there. She spotted Danielle Calvin a ways off, dressed more flamboyantly than Alexia was, and lifted her hand in a short wave to the other fashion major. She made her way through the swaying couples to Danielle, who wasn't on the dance floor yet, and stopped beside her.
"Hi," she said, fanning her face with a hand and thinking ruefully, God, it's too hot! She studied the other fashion student's outfit, noting how tall the high heels made her. Danielle in her high heels dwarfed Alexia, who was only five foot three. Danielle made her feel especially short.
Deadpan now, Alexia said, "How long did it take you to put your outfit together?"
OOC: ... And she's not the only one who's lost for words at this point. *is on writer's block*

erin
Even in the dim lighting, Erin couldn't help but notice the blush that flushed her friend's face. She turned her head slightly to see its cause and found her fear to be confirmed. Of course Vince was standing behind her - he was everywhere, it seemed. She blocked him out of her mind, focusing instead on her friend. "Oh, I'm not bad. Although, now that I've seen him..." She couldn't even bear to say his name. "I wouldn't bother, Lanni, it's not worth it. He's not capable of emotion."
Although she was slightly tempted by the alcohol - it would definitely let her loosen up a little. Then again, it might also make her behave...differently. And that was a bad sort of differently. Sure she had drunk alcohol and tried pot, but she had never made a habit out of either and never gone near any addictive drugs because she wasn't willing to risk dancing for something so material. Erin was quite conservative in behavior, despite her liberally short skirt - other than that one time...
Shaking her head again, Erin's eyes wandered across the dance floor, watching as a slow song came on and couples began pairing up. She had done a terrible job of getting over Vince, and resolved to at least pay attention to others. After all, there were plenty of other attractive guys - and girls - at Weatherfield.
She turned back to her friend, who was herself very pretty, although decidedly straight. "After this song, do you want to go dance? It's a dance, we should at least try to enjoy ourselves." Erin's smile was only slightly forced. If she didn't look at Vince, she could be perfectly normal and relaxed. She could, she was sure.

lanae wilkinson x Give me give me give me what you got got Cause I can't wait wait wait any more more more more. Don't even talk about the consequence, Cause right now you're the only thing That's making any sense to me.
Crap. Erin had caught the direction of the glance and she'd been caught red handed in the scene of the crime. She blushed brighter than before and muttered to herself unintelligibly about what a terrible person she was. "I know, I know." She said finally, clearly, glancing back up to her friend. "I'm pathetic." She moaned helplessly, burying her face in her hands and groaning to herself. She really couldn't believe herself, or her childish crush on the most wanted guy at school. She was sure Erin couldn't either, and that was almost worse than herself, considering she hated disapproval from practically everyone.
She refused to look at him. No, she wouldn't. She wouldn't, she couldn't, she shouldn't. She should hate him with all of her being for everything he had put Erin through, but somehow she couldn't. She couldn't hate hate anyone. Ugh, how she hated high school. She wanted it all to be over with so she could go back home where she belonged and not even think about college or education or anything except her family and dance and be perfectly, blissfully happy. Of course, that was what practically everyone thought and wanted, but of course she was going to be the last person on earth to get what she wanted because of her stupid bad luck.
Sadly, she removed her palms from her mask and tucked a whisp of hair that had fallen back behind her ear. She smiled softly at Erin's suggestion and shook her head vigorously. "Oh no! I'd trip and fall on my face, i know i would." She said, shaking her hands in a terrified manner. As brought up before in her mind, she wasn't a bad dancer but she had terrible luck and she knew something bad would happen as soon as she stepped out on the dance floor, no matter how inviting it was and how much she wanted to dance right now. It was driving her nuts.. but she knew she would if Erin asked her again. She was too much of a pushover and she knew it, but she also knew when to say no. Most of the time. ________________________________

Danielle's pretty face broke out into a wide smile when she recognized her friend Alexia walking over to her. "Heyyy, girl!" She shouted over the music, mostly so she could hear but also partly because it was rather hard to miss that she loved attention and would stop at hardly nothing to get it. She bounced up and down excitedly, heels or no heels, scanning the crowd. Alexia spoke and she turned around and smiled again. "Ooh, not very long. It was fun! What do you think?" She spun around so that her friend could see the full view.
It didn't really matter that she seemed rather uninterested when she asked the question, what mattered was that she asked and so then she could answer and finally she had someone to talk to, deadpan or not. "What about you?" She asked, looking over her friend's outfit. "You look absolutely great!" She flashed another blindingly white smile as she approved of the outfit her friend wore. Her heels clacked impatiently on the ground, she couldn't think of anything really to say, for the one time in her life. This better not get out. Danielle Calvin losing her ability to think of a subject to talk about at the drop of a hat? Scandalous.
She hummed along to the music, nodding her head to the beat, even though it was slow it was still pretty, so she was quiet for a while until finally she thought of something. "So what do you think about the party so far?"[/color] It was terrible, she knew, because Alexia hated parties and she had just remembered that as she said it but it could not be taken back so instead of being all annoyed with herself, she she waited impatiently for the answer.

cain blake x I don't wanna be told to grow up and I don't wanna change so you better give up cause I'm not gonna change I don't wanna grow up
Cain looked at himself in the mirror once more. This was his first dance since he'd come here to America and he couldn't say he wasn't excited. Even though he wasn't the best dancer in the whole entire world, this was still rather exciting for the fifteen year old boy. And you really couldn't blame him. He ran his hand through his hair, as he had no idea what to do with it or anything so, really had done nothing with it and hoped it looked okay to everyone else. But, if he didn't meet everyone's expectations it wasn't like he was going to crawl into a depression or anything. He'd just try harder next time and time again.
He shrugged, supposing this was going to be as good as it got practically and began his journey to the davidson hall, already hearing the music long before he entered. As he walked through the open doors he couldn't help but wonder who'd put all this together and how long it had taken them. He wasn't used to things like this and so staring up at everything with a silent, solemn curiousity was just his way of showing it. He grinned boyishly once he decided that he liked it and therefore could do pretty much whatever now, and stuffed his hands in his pockets, looking around. He wouldn't approach anyone, yet, until he could recognize someone. Which would be kind of hard because he didn't know hardly anyone, and so he didn't really know who most were under the masks.
He walked to the refreshment's table, his slight limp hardly noticable, and bought himself a bottled water, since he hadn't thought of drinking anything before the dance and was rather parched now that he thought about it. He sipped his water as he scanned the room, looking for anyone he could recognize or even find familiar. It was kind of hard though.. there were so many people. He would probably be pretty easy to spot, he was so tall, he limped, and he had a strong british accent which was rather hard to miss. Oh well.. he was determined on having a good time none the less. ________________________________

Tris shrugged and grinned. "Oh, I don't know, just throw ourselves in and see what happens, right?" Recklessness was hardly a major part of his character, but if he was ever at a loss for what else to do, there was always that. In any event, he had no desire to think about things tonight. He would rather just... go with whatever was happening. Not that much was happening - and then the DJ switched on a slow song.
Tris sighed. "Or not. Unless you were going to ask someone to dance?" He did not quite manage to keep the incredulity out of his voice, although he regretted it. Despite the fact that he disliked assumptions, it was hard to imagine the quiet senior asking someone to dance - though not impossible, he supposed. There were always girls who were "just friends", who wouldn't take any meaning out of being asked to dance and who wouldn't be at all bothered by it. He didn't much feel like dealing with drama this night - though it was undoubtedly inevitable.
His eyes wandered over the forming couples - some were genuine, he was sure, and some were quite obviously jokes.
What a pathetic post. Sorry it's so so short, even by my standards, but I don't have too much muse or time and am still not feeling particularly well. Do what you can with it, and I'll try to do better next time. Or can Tris. I'm seriously thinking about it.
Sorry for playing god a little with the slow song, by the way, but I was tired of all the leading up and anticipation [it changed back up in Kiara's post, for anyone who missed that]. Someone else can change the song whenever they see a need to.

Andy moved her attention from the boy Vince, and along to the rest of the hall. She faintly registered Michael – ‘Mikey’, not too hard to remember – and Kiki speaking to each other, but paid no attention to them. She saw a few familiar looking people here and there, but none that looked particularly interesting. In the time she had been come to this school, Andy still didn’t know too many people. ‘Well, tonight’s a good night to change that then,’ She thought to herself. Andy turned her attention back to Mikey and Kiki momentarily. “Wanna dance?” She heard Kiara say just as she tuned back into them. “Hey, you two have fun. I’m gonna go find something interesting to do!” Andy shouted over the din. She turned and pushed her way through the slowly growing crowd of moving bodies.
Unaware of Michael and Kiara’s planning to liven things up, she thought to herself, ‘This place needs some action.’ She immediately afterwards thought of all the ways she could set up an epic prank. ‘That’s a good way to get people to know you.’ Andy was rather disappointed in herself for the lack of detention days she had recieved since first arriving here. ‘I’ve been slacking,’ She thought, rather shocked at herself.
Heading to the tables for a drink, Andy noticed a rather tall, dark-haired boy standing alone. ‘Ah, a new friend! He looks lonely.’ She made her way straight to him, stopping when she was a few feet from him, and putting herself directly in his line of sight. “Hi. You look lonely.”
